It's official! The FROSTBITE 500 is ON for Saturday, February 7th, 8-11 am. Register today as this contest fills up fast. Space is limited to 500 participants.

  • Check-in begins at 7am (participant ski tags must be visible on outerwear).

All participants must comply with Minnesota state licensing requirements and must possess a trout stamp, which will not be available for purchase onsite. The event is open to all ages; however, anglers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The contest will primarily follow a catch-and-release format, but contestants may keep up to three rainbow trout they catch.

FROSTBITE 500 NAME

We're excited to introduce the "Frostbite 500", a fun new name for the annual winter event.  In 2018, when planning began for the first-ever Trout Ice Fishing Contest, the vision was to make the event more than just a fishing contest and to come up with a fun name that could grow. After five years of brainstorming, Former Mayor Ryan Karasek partnered with our Parks & Recreation team to create the perfect name to rebrand our community event..."Frostbite 500".  The "500" represents the opportunity for 500 lucky participants to participate in this special once-a-year event featuring pre-drilled ice fishing spots. Of course, "frost" represents the often-frigid temperatures that take place during the event, and "bite" represents the rainbow trout we have roaming the deep waters of the Champlin Trout Pond.
