Originally constructed in 1984, Water Tower No. 2 is one of the two Champlin 1,000,000-gallon water towers. It is located at the intersection of Champlin Drive and 117th Ave. A reconditioning project is scheduled to begin in April and shall finish in July, weather permitting. The project will consist of cleaning, sandblasting, and painting all interior and exterior surfaces, along with miscellaneous structure modifications. The coatings on the Water Tower protect the underlying steel from corrosion.
The last reconditioning project was carried out about 20 years ago (in 2004). A specialized contractor performed a full interior wet replacement (epoxy), spot repair of the interior dry (epoxy), and spot repair of the exterior (epoxy and urethane).
