  • June 14, 2025 Press Release - Police Respond to a Shooting Involving State Legislator (PDF)
    • Public Safety Update: The individual responsible for the June 14  targeted shootings of State Legislators Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman is in custody as of June 15. Federal charges were filed on June 16 by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota.
    • Champlin Police Chief Glen Schneider released a statement on June 16: 

       “Over the past 48 hours, our focus has been on the apprehension of the suspect responsible for the horrific events in our community. During that time, I have largely remained silent but now I want to publicly thank the officers whose immediate and life-saving actions made a difference. The swift response of our Champlin Police officers directly contributed to saving the lives of Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Their courage and professionalism under pressure cannot be overstated.
      I also want to express my sincere gratitude to our partner agencies: the officers from Brooklyn Park, Dayton, Osseo, Maple Grove, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and the investigative teams from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Their collaboration, determination, and long hours led to the successful apprehension of the suspect. Our officers train for the worst and hope it never comes. When it did, they showed up and protected this community. I could not be more proud.”
