Building Inspections Division
The Building Inspection Division performs plan reviews and building inspections and enforces City zoning and property maintenance codes. To schedule an inspection, please call 763-421-2629.
The Minnesota State Building Code, enforced by the City, provides minimum standards to safeguard life, property, and resident well-being. The City of Champlin has adopted the Minnesota State Building Code.
For building permits, please look over the helpful resources on this page. You can use our electronic application or submit a Permit Application (PDF) in person at City Hall.
Licensing for Mechanical and Sign Contractors is required. Please use our electronic application to apply for a mechanical or sign contractor license.
Credit Cards
The City of Champlin accepts credit card payments for all building permits. There will be a convenience fee of $3 for permits of $125 or less. For permits over $125, the fee will be 2.5% of the total permit fee. As always, we will continue to accept cash or checks as permit payment. No credit card payment will be accepted over fax or email.
Commercial Building Permit & Plan Submittal
In-person submittal will require your application, three full-size sets, and one reduced-size (11 x 17) set of plans; an electronic version will also be required (PDF, Disc, or thumb drive). An as-built survey will be required at the end of the project.
General Contractor License Update
Use this form to update your company's information in our system's database. Please fill in the form and upload your state-issued license. This is for electric, building, and plumbing or mechanical contractors with a city-issued license who need to upload their most recent state bond.
