CHRISTMAS AT THE CROSSINGS!You're invited to a hometown holiday tree lighting on Thursday, December 1st at Mississippi Crossings. This free event will include carolers and Santa visits plus cookies and cocoa, courtesy of Riverway Church. Bundle up, grab a cup of warmth, and gather around the tree at 6:00 p.m. to start a new community tradition. A Toys for Tots collection box will be available during the event if you'd like to donate an unwrapped toy. HOLIDAY LIGHTS TOUR!"Drum roll please...she's a beaut Clark!" If your home is decorated for the holidays, we invite you to add it to the 2022 Holiday Lights Tour. All you have to do is email your name and address to recreation@ci.champlin.mn.us by December 4. It's that easy! We'll post a list of participating homes and a map on our website by December 9. TOYS FOR TOTS!The Champlin Police Department is proud to support this program again in 2022! Please consider donating an unwrapped gift to give back this holiday season. On December 9, keep an eye on the news for the Champlin squads when they join the Kare11 parade to handoff gifts to the Marines for distribution. Collection boxes are located at City Hall, the Ice Forum and the Police Station. Please drop toys by December 9. The Champlin Police Department appreciates the community support.

ROCK THE RINK!Reserve a spot for your family and friends then join us on New Year's Eve at the Ice Forum for a fun afternoon of games. A DJ will help us Rock the Rink from 1-4:00 p.m. then we'll end with the annual balloon drop. Pre-register online for this event. Resident are $6 per skater and non-residents are $10 per skater. Registrations will be accepted until December 30, or until full. If you have skates, bring them. No skates? No worries! We have a limited number of rentals available.

MAYOR FOR A DAY ESSAY CONTEST!What would our city look like if kids were in charge? The League of Minnesota Cities essay contest is back! We encourage 4th, 5th and 6th graders to enter a 125-300 word response by December 12 for a chance to win $100 and public recognition. The Champlin Mayor will also be sponsoring an opportunity for a local student to win a $100 prize and an invite to a future City Council meeting. Winners will be notified in January 2023. SEASONAL OUTDOOR RINKS!We plan to open outdoor rinks in late December through mid-February 2023, weather permitting. The hours of operation will be 4-9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12-9:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and "no school days." The locations with warming houses that will be maintained by the City are Richardson Park in Ward 1, Andrews Park in Ward 3, and Brittany Park in Ward 4. A new outdoor rink is currently being built at Brittany, courtesy of Public Works. We are accepting applications for warming house attendants. Apply online!

SNOWPLOW REMINDERS!Public works plows once snowfall ceases to avoid plowing twice. Starting around 2:00 a.m., snow is plowed within 24 hours. It requires approximately 10 hours to plow all streets. If you experience an emergency, and your street has not been plowed, call 911 or Hennepin County at 612-596-0299. Reminder, HC is your go-to for county roads. For state highways, contact MNDOT at 511. For city streets, contact Public Works at 763-421-2820 or after hours at 952-258-5321. We encourage residents to stake curbs and stay 200 feet behind snowplows. Also, please refrain from parking on streets overnight and remember to clear hydrants, sidewalks and mailboxes.
