Parks & Recreation Department Mission
The mission of the Parks, Recreation and Public Works Department is to provide the best possible facilities and services to meet the ever-changing needs of the residents of Champlin, in the most cost-effective manner possible. The Parks, Recreation and Public Works Department pledges our commitment to respectfully and courteously serve the residents in the planning, development and maintenance of the parks and public works facilities throughout the City of Champlin.
Park and Recreation Division
Responsible for the overall administration and coordination of city recreational programs, leisure time activities, and special events. Park system planning, design, development and maintenance are also a responsibility of this division. The division is committed to the planning, development and operation of the Park and Recreation system to meet community needs within the bounds of resource availability. In conjunction with the Park and Recreation Commission, the Recreation Division of the department is responsible for the coordination of the City recreation programs, leisure time activities and community special events.
Street and Park Maintenance Division
Responsible for the planning, organizing, and coordination of the maintenance of the city’s 84 miles of streets, 29 parks consisting of 305 acres of park land, city buildings, 150+ pieces of equipment and acres of cemetery.
Ice Forum at Champlin Division
Responsible for the planning, organizing, and coordination of the city’s ice arena, maintenance of arena equipment and building to prolong life expectancy. The Ice Forum at Champlin is administered as a "business" as cost effectively as possible. The Ice Forum rents 2,000+ hours of ice annually and coordinates the Learn to Skate Program. The Ice Forum also has community meeting rooms available for the public’s use.
