Investigative Division
Five full time Investigators currently staff this division. Two Investigators are assigned to general investigation consisting of both property crime and person crimes. Another officer is assigned to serve as a School Liaison/DARE Officer. The Champlin Police Department also has an officer assigned to the Anoka-Hennepin Drug Task Force, which is a multiple agency task force designed to focus on illegal drug activity. One investigator is assigned to the Livable Housing Unit (LHU).
General Investigation
The primary responsibilities of officers assigned to general investigations include follow-up investigations of alleged criminal complaints and the preparation and submission of cases to the appropriate prosecuting officials for the purpose of initiating criminal action against offenders.
School Liaison Officer
This Officer is assigned to Jackson Middle School as a School Liaison/DARE Officer. The responsibilities of this position are to investigate all incidents that happen on school grounds at Jackson Middle School and Champlin Elementary School. In addition, the officer coordinates the presentations of approved drug education programs. This position is designed to promote positive relationships between youth, law enforcement and the school. This is done by enforcement, education and counseling.
LHU Officer
The Livable Housing Unit (LHU) is a program with a specific purpose of reducing calls for service in our community’s multi-family and business areas. Crime Free Multi-Housing is a unique approach to the problems found in and around rental and multi-housing property. Through a multi-faceted approach to the problem, property owners and managers learn how to deal with and how to avoid problems in the future. The LHU/Investigator, through a partnership with not only multi-family owners/managers but also with business owners and managers, brings forth pro-active methods in reducing crime by Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design inspections.
DTF Officer
The Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Sheriff's Office and the Anoka, Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Fridley, Coon Rapids, Columbia Heights, and Maple Grove police departments. The officers assigned to the Anoka Hennepin Drug Task Force are tasked with investigating illegal drug activities/crimes in the north metro area. The Champlin Police Department recognizes that illegal drugs and drug related activity pose a significant threat to the public safety of our community and we will vigorously pursue the investigation of this activity.
