Annual Event
In May each year the City's Environmental Resources Commission sponsors a Spring Cleanup Event. The event includes a Materials Drop-Off Day, during which Scrap Metal, Tires, bicycles and Small Engines may be disposed of. They also sponsor the Curbside Collection of used appliances.
Garbage Collection
The City has an organized refuse collection system consisting of five refuse collection companies assigned to a specific area within the City. The collection service is provided to all single family and multiple dwellings of four units or less. The Finance Department bills the residents for collection services in conjunction with the billing for water and sewer services. The City pays Hennepin County for the tipping charges and the refuse collection haulers for collection of refuse and recycling materials.
Garbage Billing (the month following service)
Minimum rate due and payable for sanitation service for each living unit per month. The following rates include recycling, Hennepin County Service Fee, and State Solid Waste Management Fee:

Recycling
A bin is provided to all homeowners. If you bin becomes damaged or lost please contact the City Hall Receptionist for a replacement at 763/421-8100.
The City has a two sort recycling program. Please separate your items according to the list below.
CONTAINERS: Put all of your aluminum and tin cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles with a neck together in your recycling bin. (Do not bag these items.)
PAPER PRODUCTS: Put all of your paper (junk mail, newspapers, phone books, magazines, etc.) in a paper shopping bag (you can use more than one if you need to) and place it ON TOP OF or NEXT TO your recycling bin.

Hennepin County Recycling Center
The Hennepin County Recycling Center, located in Brooklyn Park accepts a variety of household hazardous wastes, computers and oversized items. Link to their website for directions, hours and materials accepted.

Yard Waste Disposal
There are two options for residents to dispose of yard waste.
