Springtime Weight Restrictions for City Streets

Each spring City streets are posted to a four-ton per axle load limit. The only vehicles weighing four or more tons per axle that are allowed on City streets without a permit are emergency and service vehicles such as fire, utility and garbage trucks.
All other trucks exceeding the four-tons per axle are required to have a permit up to a maximum of 5 tons. Permits to allow five tons per axle are only issued in a few areas of the City. There is a fee for these permits and they must be carried in the vehicle at all times.

Please contact the Engineering Department at (763) 421-1955 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for major streets that may not be restricted and for any questions regarding this issue.
