Community Development Department
The Community Development Department is responsible for planning, zoning, site & building inspection, rental housing licensing, code enforcement and economic development activities.
The Department's primary objective is to plan for the City's future, while guiding current growth and development and implementing codes and standards. The Department supports the Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, City Council and other ad hoc committees as assigned. Responsibilities are divided among three working divisions: Planning and Zoning, Building Inspection, and Economic Development.

• Available Commercial/Retail Space
The City has prime commercial space available along the busy Highway 169 corridor. The link provided contains a regular update of this real estate.
• Mississippi Commons
In April 2008, the Champlin City Council adopted a revised implementation plan that emphasizes the reconstruction of the 70-year dam & spillway, and improving the water quality of the Mill Pond. To that end, the City has partnered with Hennepin County and ordered a feasibility study of the dam. The study is being prepared by WSB & Associates. • Gateway Redevelopment Plan - Phase One
Plans for a first phase redevelopment project in the Gateway Area have been temporarily shuttered as a result of market conditions.
The City has acquired and cleared a 3.5-acre area in the shadows of the Anoka-Champlin bridge for a first phase proejct. Plans call for a four-story mixed use building comprised of residential condominiums and first level retail shops, a destination-oriented riverfront restaurant supported by a parking garage.
